The 26th Amendment has empowered generations of young Americans to speak loud and clear about what they want for our country. The stakes right now are high, but — just as it did with the ratification of the 26th Amendment — democracy will win.
Ratified on July 1, 1971, the 26th Amendment opened a window to the U.S. Constitution, extending the right to vote to all Americans aged 18 and older by lowering the federal voting age from 21.
Section 1 of the 26th Amendment reads as follows:
The right of citizens of the United States, who are 18 years of age or older, to vote, shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any state on account of age.
On September 17, 2025, members of Dougherty County Democratic Committee, following a formal written request submitted by Chair Joyce Barlow, advocated to the Board of Elections to extend voting hours for the November 4th Election. We prevailed and extend many thanks to all who participated in this effort!
As a result of this campaign, Dougherty County Voters will be able to vote at the Riverfront Resource Center (The Candy Room) on weekends and late on Thursday evenings. Please see the flyer for details and VOTE!
Meet Public Service Commission Democratic Candidates Peter Hubbard, and Dr. Alica Johnson (remote) and learn about this critical committee that controls electric rates for the entire State of Georgia.
The PSC has voted SIX times in only three years to raise our electric bills while , at the same time, they have granted 80% rate reductions to big data centers. It's just wrong!
Then use your vote on November 4th to tell this all-republican committee to make decisions that benefit the citizens of Georgia and not the data center.!
“Democrats are the party of
inclusion. We know that diversity
is not our problem—it is our
promise.
As Democrats, we
respect differences of perspective
and belief, and pledge to work
together to move this country
forward, even when we disagree ...
we do not merely seek common
ground—we strive to reach higher
ground.”
